The Patriot baseball team has a record of 577-289 with Shelton at the helm. Coach Cates spoke on this saying, "I think that everyone is excited for Cameron. He is going to a good baseball program and he is going to be expected to grow as a baseball player. I look forward to keeping up with Cameron in the future and watching him grow and mature as a man and as a ballplayer." Cameron ended his 3 year career at South Gibson County as part of the first senior class. Throughout his time at SGC he led the team in Hits during the first three seasons of the program. We wish Cameron the best of luck as a Patriot.

Beginning in the fall of 2013 Langley will be attending Williams-Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. He will play under coach Frank Lee, who has been a Head and Assistant Coach there for the past 8 seasons. "Everyone is excited for Mitch. It is always an exciting moment for our program when players get to extend their careers and get the opportunity to play in college. I know that Mitch is extremely excited and I know that everyone involved with our program is proud of him." remarked Coach Cates. "I have seen Mitch grow so much in the 3 years that I have been here. He has matured so much and has evolved into a leader for our baseball team." Mitch is entering his senior season as a two year starter in CF and hopes to continue that streak for yet another season. We wish Mitch a great and successful career and the best of luck as a Eagle.

"Tyler is a guy that is irreplaceable in any program. His statistics speak for themselves but what people do not see is his impact as a leader and his competitive drive. I wish that I could bottle up his competitiveness and give it to our players that are returning. He played the game the right way, and we can only hope that guys watched him and will take how he played the game and apply it to their games. He will definitely be missed in this program, but I am looking forward to keeping up with him and watching him grow as a man and as a baseball player as well." We would like to wish Tyler England the best of luck and a successful career as he now becomes a Saluqi.

These guys have been here since the beginning with me. Some of my first words to the players as their head coach was talking about the importance of building a program and that it starts with the foundation. I told them that they would be influential to the process of getting 'our house' built the correct way. They have done a fantastic job, and I could not have asked for more than what they have given to our program, it has truly been a pleasure and an honor to coach these 7 players." These seniors, in order from L to R in the picture, are Marshall Pearson - 4 year varsity player, Dylan Denote - 3 year varsity player, Garrett Lashlee - 4 year varsity player, Austin Moore - 4 year varsity player, Luke Bray - 4 year varsity player, Hayden Scott - 4 year varsity player, and Kyle Duncan - 3 year varsity player. Hayden LewisJacob Wright |
Hayden Lewis has made the decision to play collegiate baseball at Union University, in Jackson, TN. He will play under 2nd year head coach Lee Driggers. Hayden was selected as the District 13AA Player of the Year in 2015. Statistically it is one of the best seasons that has been played at South Gibson County High School. He finished with a .370 BA, scoring 41 runs, with 34 RBI, and 20 stolen bases. "When you look at the year that Hayden had, it was no shock that the coaches in our district voted him to be the Player of the Year. He had a phenomenal year, and you know that he has the ability to change the game with one swing of the bat." commented Head Coach Lin Cates. He leaves the Hornet Baseball Program as a highly decorated member of the record book, being in the top 5 for career batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, homeruns, runs batted in, slugging percentage, walks, hit by pitch, stolen bases, and quality at bats. Jacob Wright finalized the continuation of his baseball career on Thursday, May 14, as he verbally committed to attend and be a member of the baseball team at Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, MS. He will be playing under head coach Curt Fowler, who has been there for the entirety of the Toppers program history. Jacob has been selected to the District 13AA All-District Regular Season and Tournament team for the past two seasons, and during the 2014 campaign was selected to the state of Tennessee's All-Region 7 Team. Wright ranks in the top 5 for career victories, earned run average, appearances, games started, strikeouts, complete games, and innings pitched. "I have been lucky to have coached a player and competitor like Jacob. There was no one on our team that wanted to win worse than he did, and in the biggest moments, he wanted the ball in his hands. That is something that you cannot teach, and is a rare quality today." commented Coach Lin Cates. "I am excited that someone is taking a chance on Jacob, because Blue Mountain is getting a guy that is going to be consistently good for them throughout his four seasons as a Topper."

Dylan Moore |
Dylan Moore finalized his decision to play collegiate baseball for the 2015-16 season, as he signed to play with and attend school at Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, TN. He will be playing under head coach Robert White, who has accumulated a decade of being the Eagles head coach. Dylan has made himself into being a staple player for the SGC baseball team over the past two seasons. Through his tenure as a Hornet, he has etched his name into the record books and is in the top 5 for career triples, homeruns, slugging percentage, stolen bases, and Quality at Bats. "It has been a pleasure and a privilege to coach a player like Dylan. I wish that people knew how special he was to our program over the past 4 years. He did so much, as you can see, but there are a lot of things that he did for us that does not have a number attached to it, but the importance was huge. He became arguably one of the best outfielders in West TN as a junior and part of his senior year, and then when we asked him to give that up to play in the infield, he did it without blinking an eye because he always put the team before himself." Coach Lin Cates commented. "I am excited for Dyersburg State to get a competitor and a young man like Dylan Moore in their program, because they will not regret it."
