Lin Cates
Head Coach
Lin Cates is entering into his 5th season at the helm of the SGC baseball program and in his 6th year of coaching high school baseball. Cates has an overall coaching record of 61-53-2.
Cates came to South Gibson County from Union City High School where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for 1 year.
Lin Cates is a graduate of Westview High School in Martin, TN where he lettered in both baseball and basketball.
Cates played college baseball first at Jackson State Community College and transfered after two years to play at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
While at Jackson State, in 2007, Cates was ranked in the top ten in the conference (TJCCAA) for strikeouts/9 innings. In 2008 Cates led all UT Martin pitchers in appearances with 22.
In the summer of 2006, Cates played in the Florida Collegiate Summer League for the Athletes in Action affiliate team - Orlando Hammers. In the summer of 2007, Cates played in the New York Collegiate Baseball League for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes affiliate team - Niagara Power.
Cates works primarily with the infielders, pitchers, and catchers, but is involved with other aspects of the team as well.
Cates is married to his wife, Hillary, and they live in Medina.
Along with his coaching duties, Cates teaches in the History Department at South Gibson County High School.
